How REALTORS® Are Making a Difference: Advocacy and Relief from Arizona to Washington D.C.
As real estate professionals, we’re more than just market experts—we’re advocates, neighbors, and problem solvers. Both the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and the Arizona Association of REALTORS® (Arizona REALTORS®) are leading by example, making a powerful impact not only in our industry but in communities across the country.
National Action with Local Impact
In Washington D.C., the National Association of REALTORS® has been working tirelessly to promote housing stability and support property ownership across the nation. Since the start of the current congressional term, NAR has met with over 70 new members of Congress, participated in more than 100 events, and collaborated with key transition teams, including those at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Veterans Affairs.
One of NAR’s most critical legislative victories this year was successfully advocating for the extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), a program that safeguards millions of homeowners in flood-prone areas. Their proactive engagement helped prevent a lapse in coverage during a potential government shutdown. NAR President Kevin Sears applauded the bipartisan effort to keep the program active while calling for long-term reform to make it more sustainable and effective.
Beyond legislative efforts, NAR’s REALTOR® Party initiatives continue to promote fair housing, expand homeownership opportunities, and provide education and grants to local associations working on housing-related community projects. These efforts reflect a deep-rooted commitment to both policy and people.
Supporting Communities in Crisis
Closer to home, the Arizona REALTORS® are demonstrating the true heart of our profession through their ongoing disaster relief efforts. The Arizona REALTORS® Disaster Assistance Foundation (ARDAF) offers immediate support to individuals and communities affected by both personal tragedies and natural disasters.
From the Yarnell Hill Fire and Hurricane Harvey to the 2019 Nebraska floods and beyond, ARDAF has stepped in to provide much-needed assistance—whether through emergency grants, housing support, or direct aid to affected families. Their continued work underscores the profession’s commitment to being a steady hand in times of hardship. ARDAF is funded by tax-deductible donations and remains an essential resource for REALTORS® and community members facing unexpected crises.
Additionally, Arizona REALTORS® have actively participated in advocacy at the state level, including efforts to preserve private property rights and promote access to attainable housing—a growing concern across the state. Their leadership ensures that Arizona’s housing market remains strong, equitable, and community-focused.
Why It Matters
These initiatives remind us that real estate is not just about transactions—it’s about people, homes, and the communities we build together. As REALTORS®, we wear many hats: negotiator, advocate, volunteer, and neighbor. We’re proud to be part of an industry that not only champions homeownership on Capitol Hill but also lends a hand when disaster strikes close to home.
Stay tuned for more updates on how REALTORS® are making a difference locally and nationally—and thank you for being an essential part of our community.
