Below read about Arizona cities and some of the popular communities
Scottsdale is known as the very affluent part of Arizona. Therefore it has the large homes, desert mansions, sprawling golf courses and beautiful scenery that only the Sonoran desert can provide. Scottsdale was developed as "The West's Most Western Town" and is known by many as the best resort city in the world. Some Scottsdale Residents believe that the population doubles in January, February and March when the weather is perfect for golfing and tanning out by the pool.
Scottsdale is divided into four distinct areas. The first is south Scottsdale, which is where most of the original Scottsdale homes were built in the 1950's, 60's and 70's. Then there's Old Town Scottsdale, that has all the art galleries, dining, entertainment and shopping you could possibly ask for. This is the most popular part of Scottsdale, since it caters directly to the affluent crowd that resides and visits Scottsdale. The third area is basically north of Camelback road all the way to Bell/Frank Lloyd Right Blvd. This area is full of many different communities that build in value as you get further north. Most of the homes were built in the 1970's and 80's. There is a mix of affluent and middle class neighborhoods in this area. The fourth and final area is known as the most affluent area of town and holds most of Scottsdale's gorgeous world class golf communities. It is the heart of the Sonoran desert and the homes in the area reflect the affluent image that Scottsdale holds.
One of the best parts about Scottsdale is the city built an extremely large park that snakes along Hayden road. It is full of baseball fields, dog parks, lakes, golfing, trails, basketball courts and much much more. At anytime during the week, you will find people on their roller blades, fishing in the lakes, taking their dog for a walk or riding a bike. It's really one of the true gems that Scottsdale provides for the community.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping
The Borgata of Scottsdale is one of the shopping and dining meccas of this area. Browse elegant shops connected by cobblestone walkways and sit enjoying the sounds of water from bubbling fountains. Reminiscent of an old, Italian village, this elegant shopping plaza features jazz and blues musicians on the weekends. Nearby Fashion Square is the location for major retail department stores, specialty shops, and dining venues.
Education
The Scottsdale Unified School District consists of 33 total schools: 20 elementary, 7 middle, 5 high, and 1 alternative. The district serves approximately 27,000 students with specific goals to increase individual student academic achievement and personal growth.
Carefree
Carefree is a desert community north of Scottsdale. Bordered on the north by the Tonto National Forest, Carefree blends in almost seamlessly with the adjacent wilderness area. As you drive into Carefree from the South, you’ll enjoy the enormous boulder outcroppings that make this area unique. Carefree homes usually have custom architecture with desert landscaping, and many Carefree homes are nestled in the most beautiful rugged desert terrain, with sweeping mountain vistas.
With few places that can boast as many cultural opportunities, open space, and scenic beauty the Northeast Valley is incredible! Many people are attracted to the largely untouched beauty of the area. Low-density development is the norm in many communities so be prepared to share your new home in the desert with deer, bobcats, coyotes, and quail.
Carefree can lure you a few miles north to where it sits nestled in the desert mountains of the Tonto National Forest. With an emphasis on quality of life the entire, Northeast Valley is definitely an area you'll want to know.
Chandler
Chandler is very much like Gilbert. They share similar traits as a farming community and hold many of the same demographic characteristics. The difference between Chandler and Gilbert is that it is closer to Phoenix, therefore it has more communities that are older. Chandler boomed earlier than Gilbert, because it was an easier commute to Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale.
Chandler has always been a farming town and therefore has many areas that house the farm laborers. These older, less desirable areas are mostly in downtown Chandler.
For the most part, Chandler is a great community with excellent neighborhoods to live in. It has many new homes as well as many older homes. It is a short hop, skip and a jump over to any of the other cities in the area and can be a great place to raise a family.
Gilbert
Gilbert is one of those cities that is very new. In 1975 it had around 2,000 people, only had 1 high school and one elementary school. Today it has over 110,000 people and is still growing. Many people like to live in Gilbert, because of it's farming roots and it is virtually a rural suburbia. Another reason people like to live in Gilbert is because there is so much land available and so many new homes being built that the homes are relatively affordable, compared to other communities.
Many people like the community because of the fact that it is so new. There hasn't been anyone there before them to destroy the neighborhoods, and the only people who can live in that area are those who can afford a new home. They have more assurance that their neighborhood will stay in good condition for a longer time.

An invigorating sense of vitality courses through the sprawling Community Center at Anthem. The stream of energy is keenly felt by everyone who takes part in activities here. HIGH-CALIBER GOLF
Greg Nash Design has crafted two equally stunning yet distinct courses at Anthem: The Persimmon which debuted to outstanding reviews in 1999, and The Ironwood, which opened in 2004. The layouts share some key attributes: large, undulating greens; dramatic elevation changes; Valley and mountain views; deep canyon washes; rolling fairways, and multiple tees. Both stretch more than 7,200 yards from the back tees, and they put a premium on accuracy and course strategy.
THE PERSIMMON
Aside from being a sheer joy to play for golfers of all abilities, The Persimmon’s sweeping views, dramatic bunkering, immaculate conditioning and creative hole designs have garnered legions of fans, among them members of the golf press, who have bestowed many accolades on the course, including:
• In Desert Golf magazine, Valley PGA pros ranked The Persimmon the 10th best private course in the Valley.
• Golf Digest rated it the 14th best course in Arizona.
• Ranking Arizona magazine rated The Persimmon #3, #4 and #2 in its “best private courses” listing in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
• Links magazine rated Anthem Country Club among the top 132 golf course communities worldwide.
THE IRONWOOD
The Ironwood joined its popular predecessor, The Persimmon, in early 2004 and likewise made quite a splash. And while the courses share many characteristics, their personalities are unique. Views from The Ironwood, for example, are oriented toward Daisy Mountain while The Persimmon overlooks the Valley. Water comes into play on seven of The Ironwood’s holes, compared to two on The Persimmon, where the desert collects more errant shots than water or bunkers.
Exclusive Membership
With playing privileges at two esteemed golf courses, as a Golf Member at Anthem Golf & Country Club, you have it made. And while the quality of the golf experience is among the best in Arizona, membership dues are an average of one-third or one-half of those at other North Valley gated country clubs, most of which offer only one course and far fewer luxury amenities.
Anthem is proud to be associated with Troon Golf management, which is responsible for hiring staff and for all operations of both golf courses and their amenities. Troon’s affiliation with many of the world’s elite golf properties has earned the company a distinguished reputation.
Greg Nash Design
Unlike some architects who fly in early to map out the terrain and fly back only to apply a few finishing touches, Greg Nash is strictly hands-on, shaping and re-shaping every hole to his precise specifications. At Anthem Golf & Country Club, his fastidiousness shows up in the end result: 36 holes that are memorable and distinct, an important consideration on layouts that you’ll play time and again as your “home courses.”
The Anthem Community Center is a great place make friends and to get involved! We’ve got everything from a Quilting Club to the Anthem Mountain Toppers Hiking group. Join a Bunko group, and arts and crafts club or special interest group. Play in one of many adult or kids sports leagues, including soccer, tennis, in-line hockey, swimming, softball and more!
There's always something fun to do or see at Anthem!
Anthem Days is the largest event of the year beginning with the Anthem 5k Run/Walk and then continuing with a Festival of Arts and Crafts, Carnival Rides, Games for all ages and much, much more!
At Anthem, there are over 150 classes and activities for all ages! Our incredible team at the Anthem Community Center will keep you entertained with their Concert Series in the Community Park, Health and Fitness Fairs, Horseback Rides and more.
Glendale
Glendale is the 4th largest city in Arizona and is the major community in the west valley. It is rooted in history as a farming community that farmed both citrus, and cotton. Today it is filled with both newer and older homes. It is a mixed community with both the older run down communities and newer/larger communities.
Many people don't believe it, but according to the 2000 U.S Census the wealthiest zip code in Arizona is in the heart of Glendale. Many people find it hard to believe that it's not in Scottsdale or Paradise Valley. If you look around the communities, you might not believe that all those wealthy people live there. There are several reasons for this questionable fact, but we'll leave that up to the you to ponder.
Glendale is a great city to find affordable homes and a great city to raise a family. The schools are great and the people are diverse in culture and wealth.
Gold Canyon
Golf Canyon is a part of Apache Junction in the far east valley. It sits at the base of the most beautiful mountain in all of North America; Superstition Mountain. It is home to many golf communities, such as Superstition Mountain Golf and Country club which holds the Countrywide Tradition Championship Skins game. The area is lush with Sonoran desert landscaping and is rich with historical tales of gold mining and prospecting in the Superstition Mountains.
Golf Canyon was a bare piece of land that started to be developed in the 1980's. There are several communities in the Gold Canyon area that revolve around retired living and focused on selling to many adult retirees. Most of the homes in Gold Canyon are custom homes that are built on bare lots. If you're interested in this area, you can drive around and see many custom homes being built.
Mesa
Like all of the east valley, Mesa is an old farm community that has since turned into one of the largest cities in Arizona. It is situated just east of Tempe, South of the Salt River Indian Community and north of Gilbert and Chandler. It holds Arizona's Mormon temple and has a heavily large Mormon population.
Mesa has been the suburban center of Arizona for many years and was the first city to truly take that role with pride. The older parts of Mesa have great homes that were built in the 1950's-60's and 70's, that have many citrus trees and irrigated yards. Not too many people know this, but Arizona has been a large producer of citrus for the world and Mesa was one of the many communities to take part in that honor. Since then, the farm land has been sold to developers who have built medium priced homes for the community.
Mesa is still growing today. Many new homes are being built in the North/North Eastern part of Mesa towards Red Mountain. They are actually completing a new freeway (Red Mountain Freeway) that will cross the entire north side of Mesa and connect directly into the I-10 and straight to downtown Phoenix. If traffic is light, you can get to downtown Phoenix in a matter of 20 minutes. The central and southern side of Mesa are the areas that have already been developed and hold some of the great older communities that Mesa has to offer.
Cave Creek
Downtown Cave Creek is North of Carefree Highway on Cave Creek Road, with some unique art galleries and fun shops. With over 4000 residents, this area has a charming rural Arizona feel, a tradition that its residents fiercely defend. You won’t see very many subdivision homes here. Instead, there’s horse property and homes with big lots and desert landscaping.
Cave Creek sits nestled in the desert mountains of the Tonto National Forest. With an emphasis on quality of life Cave Creek, Arizona is definitely an area you'll want to know. Cave Creek is the epitome of the old west and sits on rolling hills with boulders, cacti, mountains and Palo Verde tree's in every direction. It is home to some beautiful golf communities and houses a similar affluent population, like Scottsdale. Many people consider them one in the same. Cave Creek is very similar to Scottsdale in it's artistic, affluent western culture and the type of homes that are built in Cave Creek.
Cave Creek is a much smaller community and resides north of Scottsdale and southwest of the Tonto National Forest. It truly is a city in the middle of the desert with all the saguaro's and mountains that surround. It is by far the most natural desert city that Arizona has to offer.
Tempe
Tempe is a unique community. It is home to the fourth largest University in the United States, Arizona State University. Many of the people who live in Tempe are either students or are staff that work at the university. It is unique because of it's culture. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the communities in the area. It is heavily influenced by the college culture that surrounds it and the places they come from. There are many apartments and rental communities that tailor to the highly transient population that resides in Tempe.
Tempe is small, yet is a big player when it comes to sporting events and overall culture in the Phoenix area. It has been home to every major event in Arizona since the 1960's, including Super Bowl XXX, the Fiesta Bowl, NFL Arizona Cardinals Football, ASU Football, NCAA Tournaments, Cactus League and some of the biggest concerts in Arizona history. Although recently, there have been other major events held in Downtown Phoenix, such as the 2001 World Series and others.
Tempe is always on the move to be a progressive city. Recently, Tempe has been developing something called the Tempe Town Lake or the Rio Salado Project. It is the largest development project in Arizona history. The north side of Tempe is split by the Salt River, which has been dry for several decades now because the water has been diverted to the farming communities. So Tempe decided to build two deflatable dams at the east and west side of the city and then fill the river bed with water. They've basically turned a river into a lake and in doing so, they are making one of the most progressive development projects in the nation. The best part about the Tempe town lake is the Fourth of July celebration. They've only held it for two years now and in the second year, decided to hold it on both the third and fourth because of all the people who flooded the area to see the fireworks on the lake
Phoenix
Phoenix is different than most other cities. Although it is the hub of the major businesses in Arizona and holds most of the major events, it shares many amenities with the other surrounding communities like Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Glendale and others.
When Phoenix was first being built, the leadership decided to develop Phoenix in different neighborhoods. They split Phoenix into different areas that all had separate shopping/business hubs. For instance, the Biltmore area at 24th and Camelback is one of the most popular areas in the state, yet it is 5-8 miles away from downtown Phoenix. To this day, the city of Phoenix still develops and manages the city within the neighborhood community theory. The new areas of Phoenix, like Anthem and Desert Ridge, are being developed in this way to help bring a sense of distinct community to each area. Even today when you ask a Phoenician where they live in the city, they will probably tell you something like Arcadia, Anthem, Biltmore, Camelback Corridor, North Central or Paradise Valley to name a few.
The great part about Phoenix is that you have the amenities of the big city, yet you have the enjoyment of suburbia and the pristine beauty of nature no less than a half hour away. Demographics
Phoenix is the capital city of Arizona and is located in the Valley of the Sun on the upper edge of the Sonoran Desert. It is the fifth largest city in the United States. Art and Culture
Phoenician devotees to the performing and visual arts are rewarded continually with an array of culture, history, and world-class talent in the area. The Phoenix Symphony, a 75-member full-time, professional orchestra delights the city September through May with classical, pops, and chamber orchestra melodies. The Arizona Opera company provides five operas per season and is accompanied by the world-class musical talent of the Arizona Opera Orchestra. Ballet Arizona consists of 30 international dancers and actively participates in community and educational outreach programs.
Symphony Hall is the 2600-seat, acoustically superior performance venue for the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, the Arizona Opera, and the Ballet Arizona. It is also the site for Broadway touring company performances. Another delightful venue in Phoenix is the Orpheum Theater, built in 1929. Carefully and artfully restored this Spanish Baroque Revival performance hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and affords an intimate environment with only 1300 seats.
Education
The Phoenix educational system is a valued and valuable service to the city residents. Twenty-nine school districts provide state-of-the-art technology, a low student-teacher ratio, and highest student achievement goals. For higher education, there are numerous private, technical, artistic design, and culinary colleges from which to choose.

Vistancia is a few years old now, but continues to gain in popularity, mainly because the city is moving toward Vistancia and it’s no longer “way out there”.
Like other self-contained communities that have grown up this way, Vistancia has created its own small-town atmosphere. An elementary school is in the community with 3 more planned, and shopping/health services have moved a bit closer to the community as well. Vistancia is located in the Northwest valley, north of Surprise and off the 303 highway scheduled to be completed by 2010. Vistancia is still much of a vision, but it is a vision that has been embraced by more and more new residents.
The community center boasts a full-sized gym, a swimming pool and water slide, tennis courts and activities for residents. The active adult community has a golf course and its own community center with workout room, indoor lap pool and outdoor resort pool. Blackstone has a private golf club with a fitness center and clubhouse as well.
Builders that have participated in building at Vistancia include Aston Woods, Cachet, Engle, Shea, Maracay and T.W. Lewis. But when considering a home in Vistancia, don’t forget to consider resale homes, which can often be purchased at lower prices than the builder will offer.

Many homes have been completed already, but there still are new homes being built. Prices on re-sales are starting in the lower $200,000’s up to over $1 million, with square footages from 1560 to the 4600 and a variety of architectural styles.
Its five distinctive communities are set apart by the natural topography of the greens and fairways of its world class par 72 championship public 18-hole golf course designed by Rees Jones. The putting course is one of the better 18 sets of cups in the Valley, with lots of undulations and tiers. Resort Golf School also is anchored at the course and is the host site of Arizona's only Jim McClean Golf School.
